  Training program migration schedule:

All new research team members must complete the CITI training program prior to being approved for a study beginning March 1, 2008
All research team members must complete the CITI training program prior to a new submission or 3-year renewal approval after March 1, 2008

  What does this mean?

If you are currently LATA certified, you must take the CITI training program for working with research animals at Emory.
If you are currently LATA certified, and you are submitting a new study or 3-year renewal for approval after March 1, 2008, all research team members must complete CITI before approval can be granted
If you are NOT currently certified, you must take CITI for your training

  How long does it take?

The CITI Lab Animal Welfare training is an involved training program. The program presents information that must be read, then a quiz to test your knowledge. Depending on the number of modules and the content of the modules, it may take you several hours. The training can be taken in several sections; it does not need to be taken all at once. The system will remember what quizzes you have taken and what your score was.
Be sure to allot enough time to take all necessary training. You cannot work with animals in a research setting until the IACUC has issued an approval for you to do so. The CITI Lab Animal Training program is just ONE of the requirements to receive IACUC approval to work with animals in a research setting.

What are the advantages of using the Lab Animal Welfare training program at www.citiprogram.org?

The course meets the federal (USDA, OLAW) requirements for basic training in the humane care and use of animals in research and teaching.
The CITI Lab Animal Welfare Working Group provides direction and oversight for The CITI Lab Animal Welfare Course. The Group, consisting of veterinarians, IACUC members, IACUC chairs and IACUC coordinators, ethicists and lab animal users, meet semiannually to review the Program and develop new materials.
User-friendly interface and easy registration process for learners- learners register themselves. The software is designed to create a custom curriculum for each learner based upon institutional requirements. CITI can simultaneously track progress through as many different learner curricula as needed- animal research, human research, GCP, RCR, etc.
CITI offers an automated alert system to remind learners, by email, that refresher or recertification training is due.
All CITI courses are customizable to meet the specific needs of the target audiences.
Learners can register with multiple institutions as needed and readily meet curricula requirements for each institution.
CITI maintains a help desk during normal business hours to help learners with any problems they may have.
